NONPROFITS

The Mercado la Paloma also serves as a community hub with several nonprofit organizations in residence that service the South Los Angeles region.

Esperanza Community Housing Corporation

Esperanza Community Housing Corporation is a social justice non-profit in South Central Los Angeles that achieves long-term, comprehensive community development.  We recognize that Indigenous, Black, and Latino immigrant communities are disproportionately impacted by historical oppression, health disparities, disinvestment and displacement.  Therefore, we develop and preserve affordable housing; elevate health equity and access to care; mobilize for environmental justice; create and protect local economic opportunities; expand engagement in arts and culture; and advocate for policies protecting human rights.  Esperanza works collaboratively to strengthen South Los Angeles.  In all of our actions, Esperanza builds hope with the community.

Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment Institute

A multi-racial, democratic, non-profit community organization that builds power to fight and stand for economic, racial and social justice. We take seriously our commitment to ground-up organizing to build a strong people’s movement that can create transformative community change.

Teens Exploring Technology

Serves young men of color between the 7th and 11th grades who are from low-income communities. Since 2009, we’ve used the concept of developing strong teams as a way for our young men to learn about collaboration, ideation, and long-lasting life skills. In small teams, our youths learn the process of taking an idea from concept to market.

FEAST

FEAST was created to help families struggling with the effects of living in a broken food system live healthier, more nourishing lives. We do that by providing a comprehensive 16-week wellness program that combines Food Education, Access to healthy foods, and group Support, Together.
